Get into the spirit with the Sydney Royal Easter Show

It's that time of the year again! Easter is just around the corner, and if you're planning on spending the holiday in Australia, there's no better place to be than the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Located in the capital of New South Wales, Sydney's Easter show attracts visitors from far and wide to experience the festivities, with almost 900,000 people showing up each year.

The show is organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS), which hosts the event to celebrate Australia's agricultural heritage and traditions. With a range of activities for all to enjoy, the Royal Easter Show is also a piece of Sydney tradition in itself, first being held in 1823.

A great part about the Royal Easter Show, is that proceeds help the RAS to invest in rural NSW, so while you're strolling through the stalls and enjoying the carnival you know that you're contributing towards a great cause.

There's so much to see from agricultural competitions, to shopping, live entertainment and animal encounters, but we've picked our top six must do's for you and your family to enjoy.

The Cheese Toastie Factory

There'll be 3 of these beauties in action at the Show. Each day of the event they'll be pumping out delicious toasties at only $2 a pop. Grab a flavoured milk for a great value $5 meal-deal - irresistible!

Be on edge of your seat with live shows

There is truly something for everyone with the Royal Easter Show's live entertainment. Hover on the edge of your seat with the amazing Rodeo show, showcasing a competition between the best Bull Riders, Steer Wrestlers and Bareback riders as part of the Sydney Royal Rodeo Series.

Don't miss the ShowTime FMX team who are performing again in 2017 with showstopping, high-flying action and daredevil stunts!

Animal experiences for everybody

Coming to a show hosted by the RAS, it would be a crime not to see some of the incredible animals and livestock on show. Perfect for the little ones, there is the Farmyard Nursery, full of adorable animals from gorgeous baby lambs to ducks and chicks, puppies, bunnies and even goats and deer.

It's a safe and fun environment for the young (and young at heart) to get up close and personal with some of the animals usually only seen in the pages of children's books. You can also pat and feed the animals as well as posing for a photo with a baby lamb.

Agricultural experiences

After you've cooed over the adorable animals at the Nursery, how about heading over to see some sheep shearing and the dairy farmers milking barn? You can also pat and wash a chook at the Steggles Poultry Pavilion, or pat a pig at the Pig and Goat Pavilion.

You can admire the animals at the horse and cattle experiences, as well as seeing some of the horses in action at the Sydney Royal Horse Competition. Some 24 different horse breed classes will be competing, with everything from show jumping to rodeo and police horses.

Hold on tight for the carnival

This year the Royal Easter Show Carnival boasts over 100 rides and games, making it Australia's largest carnival. Check out the Kids Carnival for more family-friendly, subdued rides where you'll find favourites such as spinning tea cups, pony rides, a carrousel and the super slide.

For a more adrenaline pumping time, the exciting rides at the Coca-Cola Carnival should do the trick. Strap in for the soaring, swinging mayhem of the Extreme, XXXL, Sling Shot and No Limit rides, and enter the Hollywood Horrors walk-through – if you dare. There is also a Ferris wheel and some good old-fashioned dodgem cars for good measure.

Spend a dollar or two

The Royal Easter Show pavilions are known for their incredible range of goods, from local produce to clothes and homeware as well as arts and crafts. Take home some of the best food and wine, or have a sip for yourself at the Royal Beer and Wine Garden.

Foodies will feel right at home at the Woolworths Fresh Food Dome, where you can find the finest mix of produce and sample some award winning products.

So head along to the Sydney Royal Easter Show from 6-19 April 2017, pick up one of the classic showbags and get ready for an amazing time.
