What to do in Perth

Start your Perth holiday by visiting its central garden wonderland, Kings Park. This massive 400-hectare area is the perfect place to go for a walk, jog, picnic or a guided tour. It encompasses a range of scenery in one location, too, as the park boasts an eclectic mix of garden types. Two thirds of it is actually native bushland, offering a unique nature reserve in the heart of a bustling city. You could also try visiting the Western Australia Botanic Garden, where you can find 3,000 of the state's more than 12,000 different plant types in a variety of pristine, gorgeous settings. 

After your fill of flora, take a trip south of the city's fantastic CBD to visit its local fauna. Penguin Island is just 45 minutes away and is home to over 1,000 little penguins. When you arrive, pop into the Discovery Centre to learn more about this adorable bird species from the local rangers, then witness one of the daily feeding sessions. Next pop on a cruise with Rockingham Wild Encounters and explore the island to see even more spectacular wildlife, and top the day off with a spot of snorkelling in the crystal clear azure waters that surround it.

If beaches are for you, Perth has plenty to satisfy. City Beach is a local favourite, with clean, sparkling sands and excellent swimming. Surfers should visit Scarborough Beach, just a few minutes north, and families with children should go for a snorkelling adventure in Mettam's Pool during the summer.
