  • Great central location of Melbourne
I stayed at this hotel for work. Reception staff are very friendly. My room was located on the 5th floor at the end of the hotel facing Burke St. The room has a lounge/sitting room and a seperate bedroom. The bathroom looked fresh with nice soaps, shampoo and conditioner. It had a shower / bath - that I would have liked to have relaxed in! I arrived when a cold snap hit Melbourne, lucky the heating worked! However I don't think the duct to the bedroom was working so I left the bedroom door open to the sitting room to keep warm. In the sitting room the cabinet the TV sits on has a small fridge, microwave, tea and coffee facilities and glassware. The bedroom has a reasonable size wardrobe for hanging your clothes. My only bugbear was the busker about half a block away that insisted on playing his keyboard and the rain...from about 8:30pm to 10pm the 2 nights I was there. Not great when very tired. Not something the hotel can control. I turned the bedroom TV up a little to block him out. What I did love is that I could walk out the hotel doors, walk pass Haigh's chocolate, turn left on to Burke St and have a multitude of amazing restaurants to choose from. This is the corner of China town. Walk out the other hotel entrance and turn left and you are in Melbourne shopping fabulousness!! Nice touches - the hotel has complimentary newspapers, Vogue magazine and a couple of other publications in the lobby area. Breakfast at The Louden within the hotel was good. They will make you fresh poached or fried eggs quite quickly. Other choices include toasts, bacon, hash browns, congee, miso, cereals, fresh chopped fruits, bircher muesli, tea and coffee. For a 'cheaper' hotel it's pretty good - the location is fantastic being so central to the city.
  • Overnight stay
This hotel is amazing being the renovated old Vic railway building with massive ceilings and hallways and some amazing rooms. Have stayed here several times now as it is conveniently located close to Southern Cross Station which is great for country rail travellers. Staff have always been very helpful especially the cocktail barman (from Tassie) always happy for a chat. Will be staying here often!!!
  • Centrally located, comfortable beds
I've stayed here a few times now. I like that it's so close to the mall, theatres and restaurants. The tram stop right out the front of reception is very handy. Staff are friendly and helpful. The Louden Restaurant for breakfast and dinner service was great also. Food beautiful and staff extremely friendly. The walls are a bit thin between guests rooms, we had a family with little kids next to us and they could be heard easily in our room each morning, quite early, running and yelling in their room. The carpet in our room was stained in lots of places, the grout in the shower moldy. The room window looked over other buildings and street noise carried easily. However, I still like staying here as the great points outweigh those minuscule impediments I mentioned above. Windows cannot have views if there are none available. The carpet and grout could be fixed and I presume that rooms are updated as management sees fit.
