- Fabulous!A Perfect 5 Star Stay! This hotel is a true home from home. I travel for business however I feel like I am home the moment I get off the plane or pull… into the car park. The staff treat everyone like they are family and there's always a smile and a chat to make everyone feel welcome. The restaraunt food is truly Sensational, A-Grade quality, made with true passion and second-to-non in Mackay. Do yourself a favour and stay here.. you'll be glad you did...
- Ok....but pokey...would I return? Prob not.Have been wanting to try this place since it opened a year or two ago. So...another business trip to Mackay & I got my chance. Checkin was ok...I asked… for their quietest room being a very light sleeper but was told they were almost full & they couldn't help. (I should have phoned the day before I suppose) They made a note of my preference for next time. Into the lift & pressed floor 5...nothing happened....pressed it a few more times with the lift going nowhere only to discover that you need to swipe your room key. Would have been nice if they had advised of this :( Enter the room...first thoughts....smallish but had everything you need for a night. Desk...large comfy queen bed...4 pillows...airconned...safe...plenty of desk powerpoints...wifi in room...usb charger built into one of the desk powerpoints...plenty of lighting. Closet is pokey...don't try & store too much in there...maybe two shirts & some underwear. Checkout the bathroom...clean...plenty of lighting...but the shower recess...built for a skinny asian person...not a bellied aussie. And only one tiny tiny 20 gram bath soap...what the!!!!..I was afraid if I had two baths in the days the soap wouldn't last...and I doubt it would. First bath that night and the shower cubicle is cramped...cramped...cramped.....you can't turn around. And don't even think of two persons having a shower together....it would be tighter than a can of sardines. Bed was comfy...but rooms are close & internal walls are thin...you can hear all the nearby room doors close & hear all the conversations of the people walking in the corridor while you try & sleep. Bring out the ear plugs...quite returns. Restaurant area is spacious...clean & modern. BUT...placing your order is a bottleneck...one person & a clumsy process...be patient :( Brekkie & dinner was nice. Dinner specials most nights...e.g. 200 gm rump steak...chips & Caesar salad...$12. Brekkie approx $25 full buffet (note...full buffet only when hotel is full...otherwise order from menu). Summary...nice...modern...but pokey. Definitely not a family hotel to stay at...too pokey...but that's my opinion. I was told by my colleague that IBIS is Accor's budget chain...and I agree. Would I return...prob not...I like to turn around in the shower.
- Convenient location. Great staffWent to Mackay for an AFL NAB Challenge match. Because of cyclonic rains, took a day to get there from Brisbane - flights delayed, then re-routed via Proserpine… ... circled airport for 40+ minutes before being able to land - so a bit jaded on arrival. Staff at the Ibis were fantastic - made us very welcome. Basic room - but all we needed. Hotel was quiet due to weather, so probably helped us get well looked after? Overall, thought value was really good - meals especially. Good food well presented, and attentive staff. All in all a good experience. Negatives - wifi. Better off tethering your phone rather than struggle with in-house internet - but having said that, my experience with most hotels in Australia is the same.
